The Sun Also Rises is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway in 1926. You will now be able to look at the reasons why The Sun Also Rises was banned before, and why the reasons for the censorship are not entirely false.
"Censorship - the practice of officially examining books, movies, etc., and suppressing unacceptable parts." This is the Google definition of censorship, but in current times, censorship is increasingly becoming a more talked about topic considering the times we live in and what we have access to. Now, censorship and banning of books is even more talked about because of what our society fears for the future and education of our children. The book The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway is a great example of a classic book that has been banned and challenged because of its inappropriate content. Parents, teachers, and people who fear for what immature children and young adults have access to as far as inappropriate content in a book and the effects the book will have on their actions have fought against having this book in schools. The Sun Also Rises is a book about a group of adults, constantly drinking and talking about sexual activity while traveling around the world trying to "find themselves." Of course, there is a love story involved, but a very shallow love story and not very deep, the problem in the love story revolving around the main character's inability to have a physical relationship with whom he says he "loves." I for one believe the book should be banned in middle schools because its prejudice theme, shallow, unrealistic plot, and obvious inappropriate content is not appropriate for an environment where children are still growing and maturing. This inappropriate book can have a bad effect and influence on what they do and how they think; how they think about Ernest Hemingway, and life in general.
